Online Teacher Professional Development 

Join us for one of our new online Teacher Professional Development courses on the real-world applications of nuclear science. These courses are designed to support teachers to create a resource pack for a lesson with their own class.

Open to all Australian teachers, these courses aim to create an online learning community where educators can share their lessons and provide feedback and support to other participants.

Choose from our three topics:

Monitoring air pollution (Monday 26 October, 4.00pm-5.30pm)

These online courses represent 7 hours of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) or ACT Teacher Quality Institute (TQI) Registered PD addressing 2.1.2, 2.3.2, 3.3.2 and 3.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation. Teachers from other states and territories will receive a certificate of completion for their own PD portfolios.

Planning for and reflecting on ANSTO e-learning videoconferences

Learn how to use videoconferencing technology and get tips for how to best integrate these sessions into your teaching program.

Planning for and reflecting on ANSTO e-learning Nuclear Science Inquiry Skills sessions

Teachers plan a two-lesson plus homework program, in which their students plan, conduct and write a report about a first-hand investigation of ionising radiation. More information and teacher resources here.

Planning for and reflecting on ANSTO e-learning Meet an Expert sessions

Teachers plan a two-lesson plus homework program for their students, during which they gather, process and present information about a practising Australian scientist. Teachers reflect on and evaluate their students' engagement and understanding. More information and teacher resources here.

Teacher development hours: 2 hours

Standards addressed: 2.1, 2.2, 2.6, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4

Planning for and reflecting on ANSTO school excursions

Link textbook nuclear science with its real-world applications and contextualise your ANSTO excursion for your students back in the classroom.

Teachers plan a two-lesson plus excursion program to integrate class-based content with a visit to ANSTO. Teachers organise an excursion, plan pre- and post-excursion activities, and reflect on and evaluate their students' engagement and understanding.

Teacher development hours: 3 hours

Standards addressed: 2.1, 2.2, 2.6, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4, 3.5
